Mark's Gospel: The Time Has Come

Here at Bellevue it has become customary to begin the New Year by studying one of the four gospels. This year we are going to look at the Gospel written by Mark. It is considered to be the first account of the life of Jesus.

Mark’s record is written with the pace and urgency of a newspaper article that is conveying something of great importance. The stories he tells us of Jesus, and His kingdom, will challenge us all to consider how our lives must respond and change to what we read.

In these verses we see that Jesus came to destroy Satan’s domain, instead setting up the Kingdom of God, in which he is king. He calls us into this eternal kingdom through repentance and faith in Jesus. If we enter the kingdom, we are set free from slavery to sin and become his followers. We leave behind our old priorities and give ourselves to serving Jesus and his kingdom. How will we respond to his call? Will Jesus be our King?

Jesus is Lord - Mark 2:23 - 3:30 - Josh Hannah (Video)
Morning Service, Sunday, January 29, 2023
This sermon considers six of the events which Mark records in chapters 2 and 3. These reveal the very different responses of ordinary people and religious leaders to the healing ministry of Jesus. We teach that familiarity with the words and actions of Jesus increases our understanding of the character of God. It is suggested that regular reading of the Gospels better prepares us to deal with situations we may face in the way that Jesus did. The sermon concludes with a challenge to ensure that we never adopt the approach of the religious leaders.
What is happening to His word - Mark 4:1-20 - Alan Paterson (Video)

We are encouraged to allow the seed to land on good soil where roots will grow and support, and where we will live fruitful lives for God.
