Living for Jesus Today

Living for Jesus Today (http://www.bellevuechapel.org/living-for-jesus-today) is our mission at Bellevue….. The great news of Jesus is not only the ABC’s of the Christian life but also the A-Z. Hence our mission at Bellevue: Living for Jesus Today. ‘Living’ means it’s an ongoing directive, Monday to Saturday as well as Sunday, applying what we hear on Sunday to live as God’s people and draw others to Him. The little word ‘for’ gives the right focus. Our focus is Jesus. We choose to live under His Lordship and in gratitude and surrender to His undeserved grace. ‘Jesus’ is the Gospel. His forgiveness enables us to live for Him. Endless access to His grace strengthens us to never give up. His call to come and follow is where the journey begins and continues through the process of self-denial.

Rather than be moved to think, ‘Oh yes, I must do that… some other time’, we must remember it’s about today, and every day until the day of Christ’s return.

This four-week series takes a look at each part of our mission. Week 1 commences with the core of everything being for Jesus, then in week 2 exploring what it means for this to be Living, and in week 3 the importance of this happening Today. Finally, week 4 takes a look at some biblical characters we see demonstrating this in their lives and considers the challenge for our own lives.

Living for Jesus Today is the purpose of Christians in the Bellevue Family, as we begin to explore what the phrase means we start by considering that our life as Christians is to be lived for Jesus. ‘Living’ means it’s an ongoing directive, Monday to Saturday as well as Sunday, applying what we hear on Sunday to live as God’s people and draw others to Him. Living for Jesus is a whole life matter. How do we live our lives when we are not at church or with our church family? How do our neighbours, work colleagues, family, friends and others see us? Do they see Christ-like qualities? Galatians 5 v16-26 – In these verses we see the fruits of the Spirit, evidence of those who belong to Jesus and live for Him. We are also reminded of the qualities to be found in the sinful nature.

In thinking about Living for Jesus TODAY, we can consider some questions. Firstly, Who do you say Jesus is? What can stand in the way of my being baptised? And then we can think about why, why not and when and where we live for Jesus today. Luke 9v23 says 'Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me".

A Samaritan woman meets Jesus at a well as she goes to collect water. She discovers that Jesus uniquely offers true life, true worship and is the Christ, the Saviour of the World. She is so excited by what she’s heard that she leaves her water jar at the well and runs to tell the people of the town about Jesus. This passage challenges us to consider whether we have met Jesus for ourselves and found the joy that she found. If we know Jesus, will we be like this woman and share the thrill of knowing Jesus with others? Living for Jesus today means telling others. This is often hard, but it is a great help to capture the excitement about Jesus that the woman from Samaria had.
